Goodbye 2019, Hello 2020! As we ring out yet another year of memories, events and other miscellany the Safe Spaces Podcast is here to help remind you that we’re about to do it all over again.

The Dead Speak! They speak in the latest entry to the George Lucas-created (but no longer George Lucas-owned) Star Wars franchise, now serving Episode IX in the hot new Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, said to be the “final” chapter in the long-running Skywalker Saga that began a Douglas Adams’ friendly 42 years ago.

Our hosts have both seen the movie and are here to report, albeit awkwardly, what they thought, what they think it all means and everything else. Did Rey have the fairy tale ending many predicted? Did the return of Emperor Palpatine make sense? Does anyone even care about Star Wars anymore?

Director J.J. Abrams certainly had his work cut out for him trying to salvage what he could from the most beloved movie franchise in history after the cinematic abomination that was The Last Jedi. Did he succeed? Well, let’s just say he didn’t make things any worse.

So you’ve seen the new Star Wars (at least once) and yet…your cinematic appetite still craves more. Well, you’re in luck because our hosts share (some of) their picks for the best, worst and crappiest movies they say in 2019.

No spoilers here (we really want you to listen and pad those numbers) but it’s a list certain to whet your cinematic whistles. Entries include imaginary Hitlers, crumbling marriages, hungry alligators, Hollywood’s heyday, oppressive Chinese practices, loving Chinese practices, and even parasitic South Korean families. Where else will you find gangster directors hanging with psychotic clowns, Mr. Rogers and Adam Sandler?

So plug in those headphones, crank the Bluetooth speaker or turn up the phone volume to coworker annoying levels and listen now – it’s cheaper than actually going to the movies!
